Google lost its google.com domain name for a few minutes.

This is a nice loophole that Google will probably soon fill!

In October 2015, Sanmay Ved, a former Google employee, took advantage of an oversight in the renewal of the company's reservation of the google.com domain name to reserve it in his place for only $12, its real value... to the nearest billion ;)

Fortunately for Google, the case was quickly settled out of court with the payment of $6006.13 to Mr. Ved. Why that particular amount? Because it's the translation of the name Google in the language " leet speak« which allows you to write words with numbers instead of letters. Mr. Ved having donated the sum to an association, Google decided to join this great initiative by doubling its stake.

Of course, this case is above all a good coup de com', because with the procedures available to Google to retrieve the domain name, it would not have made a wrinkle. But the story would have been less pretty.

Note that Google regularly rewards people who report bugs in its system. In 2015 alone, the firm paid out about $2 million to 750 people who reported bugs.
