The collective trademark "Profession Brewer".

Profession Brewer is the first collective quality certification mark for beer. The professional union of the French brewery "Brasseurs de France" launched it on 20 February.   A collective certification mark complies with a set of rules of use defining the conditions under which it may be used. These rules establish a quality control system annexed to the trademark application. Only a certification body may register such a mark, specifying its nature in the application.   The logo Profession Brewer is composed of a golden hexagon evoking origin and quality. Inside, the silhouette of a brewery vat can be seen in reference to the ancestral know-how of French brewing. With more than 1100 breweries in France, this brand is " a real rallying sign for brewers and a support for consumers in the face of the current craze that characterizes the French beer market ".according to François Loos, President of Brasseurs de France. Indeed, Profession Brasseur implies three commitments of the brewers, but also three objectives. There are already some certified or committed brewers.

Profession Brewer: the three commitments made by brewers

  By entering the collective certification mark Profession Brewerthe brewers pledge to:
  1. Produce the beer (i.e. brew and package it) in a French brewery ;
  2. Respecting the rules of hygiene and traceability, controlling the raw materials and the product at each stage of production to guarantee the French brewing know-how and the quality of the finished product. The specifications include no less than 420 evaluation criteria;
  3. To have their own production tool and to be brewers by trade. The brewer must therefore have the "brewer's title" or have at least three years' experience. In addition, it is necessary for the brewery to be the owner of its brand of beer.
  This certification mark also serves three essential purposes for Brasseurs de France.

The three objectives of Profession Brasseur

  The sign Profession Brewer was born out of two years of brewers' work. Through this brand, they wish to defend their traditions, their specificities and of course their terroir. Profession Brewer thus fulfils three objectives:
  1. To be a benchmark for consumers among more than 4,000 distinct beer brands. At a glance on the packaging, the logo appears and reassures the customer;

  1. Ensure the quality of the beer. This guarantee comes from the control of CERTIPAQ, an independent and recognized certifying body. It certifies that the beers are brewed and packaged in France in accordance with the specifications;

  1. Promote the high quality of French beer.
  The brand Profession Brewer being very young, only certain brewers are taking advantage of it for the moment.

Which brewers benefit from this collective certification mark today?

At present, 3 brewers are certified and 21 brewers are committed to the specifications. Thanks to this mark, the brewers participate in the development and influence of French brewing.
