You are the owner of a European trademark (or an international trademark covering the EU) registered on December 31, 2020.<\/em><\/p>\n

If your brand is REGISTERED <\/strong>before December 31, 2020 (i.e. the procedure is fully completed and the EUIPO has issued the registration certificate), you do not have to do anything.<\/p>\n

Registered trademarks should be automatically \"cloned\" on the UK register, without any formality on your part, and at no extra cost. They will get a specific number for the UK and will need to be renewed separately in the UK when they expire.<\/p>\n

You are the owner of a European trademark (or an international trademark for the EU) under examination on December 31, 2020.<\/em><\/p>\n

Holders of European (or international trade marks targeting the EU) not yet registered on 31 December 2020 will not benefit from automatic cloning of their trade mark into a UK trade mark.<\/p>\n

These owners should have 9 months to apply for a UK national trade mark that will allow them to benefit from the filing date of their earlier mark. We are still waiting for the details of this procedure. The normal UK filing fees will have to be paid.<\/p>\n

You are not a trademark owner in Europe or in the UK.<\/em><\/p>\n

Those who have never applied for a European or international trademark before 31 December 2020 will have to make a normal national application before the UK Office.<\/p>\n
