Where to register your trademark?<\/h2>\n

A trademark is territorial, i.e. its geographical protection is limited to the country (or set of countries) in which it has been registered.<\/p>\n

It is possible to register a trademark anywhere in the world, as most countries have an industrial property office equivalent to the French INPI.<\/p>\n

But where to start?<\/strong><\/p>\n

France: the starting point<\/h3>\n

As a general rule, we advise our clients to start by registering a French trademark, especially if their activity will be mainly in France. This allows them to be legally protected in their country of origin, without having to spend a lot of money. This is particularly relevant if you are starting a project and you don't know yet if it will work or not.<\/p>\n

Moreover, a French application is a mandatory prerequisite for filing an international trademark (see below<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Europe: the logical next step<\/h3>\n

Subsequently, many choose to extend their protection to the European Union, since the European trademark allows protection in all 27 EU countries with a single application. Learn more about the European Trademark<\/a><\/p>\n

Please note: the European trademark does not cover the UK or Switzerland. To register your trademark in these countries, separate registrations are required. We can help you with these filings. <\/p>\n

To infinity and beyond!<\/h3>\n

If you plan to market your products and\/or services beyond the European borders, we may be able to advise you to file an international trademark application. This trademark is registered with the WIPO and allows you to target many countries in a single registration, provided that these countries are members of this system.
